Ernest Herbert Whydale 1886 to 1952 ARE,
SGA.Born at Elland, Yorkshire. Landscape painter and
etcher who studied in London and produced more than forty
plates between 1913 and 1931 dealing with country life.
E. H. Whydale studied art in both Birmingham and St.
Leonards-on-Sea. Elected an associate Royal Society of
Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1920 and exhibited
twenty-six works there as well as thirty-four at the
Royal Academy, one at the Royal Scottish Academy and
fifty-eight at Connell & Sons Gallery. He focuses
primarily on rural life. Scenes of ploughing, carting,
farming and country markets and fairs figure prominently
in his work. Especially in his etchings, Whydale
brilliantly captured the fast disappearing English
countryside
