Bristol High Cross /The Bristol High Cross,
[Buck, S and N del and sculp] Printed and Sold by C Dicey and Co in Aldermary Church Yard [1734] . Bristol's High Cross, at the time the drawing was made the cross was located on College Green but it is now standing at Stourhead, Wiltshire. The cross dates from 1373. Some damage to base of page and small edge tear shown BEFORE mending £75 unmounted

Antique steel  line engraving by G. F. Robson engraved by  J. Redway. Published in 1827. The colouring is later but old. Approx 21.5 x 12.5cm unmounted £40 scarce






Bristol Bridge Rebuilt 1768
. . . . Local architect James Bridges  was privately commissioned to design a new bridge .The Council obtained an Act of Parliament in 1760 to rebuild and enlarge the bridge from the one with shops etc as in London bridge, disputes went on.  James Bridges suffered constant attacks on his competence by rival architects. In the end he despaired of Bristol and sailed for the West Indies. Ironically his design was used in the end. In 1768 the new bridge was opened as a private toll bridge . Bristol Bridge was finished in September, 1768 An obviously contemporary ie printed 1768 finely detailed engraving over 3 pages( foldes as issued) the only clue being R.Coffin fecit but he cannot be traced. Creases to top right corner but in Top gear terms cooler than a Zonda ie mega rare £85 unmounted





Glastoniensis (Glastonbury)
1658, Hollar / Single page x 2

Etching with engraving on laid watermarked paper from Monasticon Anglicanum: or, the History of the Ancient Abbies, Monasteries, Hospitals, Cathedral and Collegiate Churches, with their Dependencies, in England and Wales. Hollar had  returned to England in 1652 and begun working for the publisher John Ogilby and the antiquary Sir William Dugdale. Over the next twenty-five years he etched no fewer than 566 plates for them. Sir William Dugdale (1605-1686):English antiquary and friend of Hollar's patron Thomas Howard, second earl of Arundel, Dugdale compiled one of the most significant histories of English religious houses, , Monasticon, Vol. II. (1661),The text was written by Roger Dodsworth (1585-1654)He had spent his life in the study of genealogy and ecclesiastical and monastic history. He was also an indefatigable collector of manuscripts which are now in the Bodleian Library. . £85 This is the original pair of vistas kept as a pair also listed on Hollar pages

Bristol High Cross
 labelled to top . . . "the cross was erected anno 1373 near the centre. . ..  etc
The original High Cross in Bristol was carved in 1373 and placed in College Green in 1733. It was removed by Henry Hoare II in 1768 to Stourhead Park in Wiltshire This re tells that and seem to be pre the Buck image unmounted £45
