from John Coney, Views of English Abbeys & Cathedrals. London, 1829.John Coney: John Coney was first apprenticed to an architect but chose to follow a career in the arts. In 1815 he published his first work, a series of eight views of Warwick Castle, drawn and etched by himself. Brought to the attention of the artist and illustrator, James Duffield Harding (1797-1863), in 1815 he employed Coney to work upon a large series of etchings depicting exterior and interior views of the cathedrals and abbey churches of England. This massive project occupied Coney for the following fourteen years and the completed etchings and engravings were published in 1829 under the title of Views of English Abbeys and Cathedrals.
