The West prospect of Thurgarton Priory in the County of Nottingham

In 1726, brothers, Samuel & Nathaniel Buck began their task of creating a visual record of ancient monuments in England and Wales. "Buck's Views" as they were called are 428 views of the ruins of all noted abbeys, castles, together with four views of seats and eighty-three large general views of the chief cities and towns of England and Wales. Printed and sold individually and collected into volumes for book purchasers. Samuel Buck was born in Richmond, Yorkshire, in 1696, Nathaniel being a younger brother. ~Published between 1724-38 on Hand-Made Laid Watermarked Paper, tipped onto a backing sheet cut to 5mm into plate mark11 1/4" x 18 1/2" £25

The New and Correct English Atlas, came in various editions between 1787 and 1831, also the Miniature version of his County Maps, The Travellers' Companion, from 1790 to 1828.Size .12.5 x 10 inches. At the end of the eighteenth century, Cary was commissioned by the Postmaster-General to survey of all the principal roads in the country. His method of measurement was to use a 4' wheel connected to a counter, which kept a tally of the number of rotations. £30 .
