The third
voyage of Captain James Cook
(1728-1779) was organized to
discover the Northwest Passage
and explored the waters of the
Pacific Ocean north of the
Equator. The official artist of
Cook's Third Voyage was John
Webber (1752-1793) who diligently
recorded the sights of the
journey as they were experienced.
Original engravings done after
Webber's drawings and paintings
document the people and places of
the Pacific voyage. These
engravings were published in
1784-85 in the large four volume
atlas Voyage to the Pacific
Ocean...for Making Discoveries in
