map as Geographer Engraver to H.R.H. the
Duke of York. Outline colour.25x20 cm by
Thomas Kitchin (1719-1784), one of the
best known of English mapmakers of the
period and later to become Hydrographer to
the King. One of a series originally
produced by Kitchin for the "London
Magazine: or, Gentleman's Monthly
Intelligencer" between 1747 and 1763. The
present map first appeared with the May
1748 issue of magazine, and is here in a
later state dating from the late
