Plan of the TOWN & CASTLE OF CORFE:
Surveyed and Drawn by Ralph Treswell in 1586 Published by W.Bowyer and J.Nichols, London, 1774 in; John Hutchin's "The History and Antiquities of the County of Dorset". An interesting copper engraved plan of Corfe, Dorset with both the castle, village and surrounding area. Hutchins has based this on the earlier work by Ralph Treswell in 1586. Hills and buildings are shown pictorially. Individual fields and buildings are named with in some cases, that of their owners, Mr Dacombe and Mr Truedale. A scale of perches is also featured. Scarce. For once both map+ plan still joined as often split to sell for more £35 inc delivery ( folds as issed)

Steel engraved map  Size 19.5x28.5cms. Thomas Moule (1784-1851) was a scholar and writer on heraldry and antiquities who worked in London as a bookseller and later on worked in the Lord Chamberlain's department.The County Maps for which he is best known were first published in the 1830's in the reign of William IV and re-issued in 1841 in the reign of Victoria. The original steel plates were used for all issues, but they were amended in the later edition to show the railways. Untinted £20

Road Map by Emanuel Bowen.
63/64 Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Crewkerne, Axminster, Exeter, Chidley. Published by John Owen in 1720 in contained in the decorative cartouche at the top of the map. Copper engraved map hand coloured Size 12x18cms  both sides shown and tinted .Notes that appear on the front and back of each map were  by the antiquarian and lawyer John Owen  the engraving was  by Emanuel Bowen This was Bowen's first major work as an engraver for which he received a part share in the atlas in payment . The  atlas was republished many times over the next forty years until the last edition in 1764. Framed and glazed  BOTH sides inc delivery £45  or £35 at the shop pics through glass so a trifle fuzzy

The black circles mark the places of the meeting of foxhounds ; reference to the divisions, hundreds and liberties as established at the quarter sessions are delineated in a table on the left ; the place of election and the polling places are listed on the right.  £20 damaged at spine

Dorset Map by Robert Morden published by Awnsham in 1722 in Camden's Britannia. Morden was an accomplished cartographer and one of the first to show longitudes measured from the meridian of St. Paul's Cathedral and shown in degrees at the bottom of the map and time in minutes at the top as time at this date was measured locally from the sun. A Map Of Dorsetshire From The Best Authorities
 First published in 1789, this particular map comes from the 1805 edition of John Cary's "New British Atlas, Being A Complete Set Of County Maps, On Which Are Delineated All The Roads, Cities, Towns, Villages, Rivers & Canals". The atlas was published by John Stockdale in London. A numbered key at lower left lists the 42 administrative hundreds within the county. Detailed and attractive. region: Somerset by J. Cary J. Coloured map of Dorsetshire from Volume IV, containing the English county maps, of Blaeu’s landmark atlas of the world “Atlas Novus”, first published in 1645. Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571-1638) was the founder of the Blaeu publishing house. In 1634 he startedthe "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" or "Novus Atlas"which  on his death was succeeded by his son Johannes (1596-1673). Johannes continuously enlarged and updated the "Theatrum" up to 1658, including the addition of a separate volume devoted to England and Wales.  Published  Amsterdam 1645-1659 size 50 x 39 cm some splitting to central seam at the top  £325 inc delivery

Map  Size 14.5 x 12cm. With descriptive text below and to verso. In 1695 John Seller published a county atlas titled 'Anglia Contracta'. The plates were acquired by Francis Grose, revised, and  first published in this 1787 edition  unmounted £30
