Jules Auguste Habert-Dys (1850 - 1924)
was born in Fresnes, France. Studied ceramics with Ulysse Bernard at
Blois then settled in Paris in 1873, He spent four years in the
atelier/school of Jean-Leon Gerome and was influenced by the graphic
artist, Felix Bracquemond, whose own work was among the first to
reflect Japonisme in France. Art Nouveau prints with rich subtleties of
tone, colour and detail; the publisher was rightly proud of this
production - the coloured gravures are printed by Gillot (hence
gillotypes) with heavy original gilding
